Designer of the month #1
Barcelona, summer of 2016. The mosaics of Park Güell shimmer in the sunlight. After six years studying fashion design at the Marangoni and Secoli Institutes in Milan, the family tradition of leather tanning reminds Maria Fontanellas of her hometown where she opens her first workshop.
Mietis then presents its first collection at 080 Barcelona and wins the prize for the best emerging designer. The young luxury brand then offers a complete outfit to the Barcelona Design Museum for its permanent collection.
Top-quality leathers, craftsmanship and innovative and personal creations reflect the essence of the Mietis label. Maria Fontanellas draws her inspiration from Art Nouveau, fantasy and cinema. She also sends a love letter to the world of bikers through pieces such as biker jackets and other pants, enough to make Jean Louis eager to find these creations at the store very soon.
And if we were to retain an article from the young Catalan label, the iconic Mary Bag deserves mention. Inspired by the 1939 Pablo Picasso Guitar and Mandolin painting, he helped Mietis develop its leather goods business thanks to its simple and complex design, an oxymoron that makes sense from the first glance.
